From what I remember I was on a trip in a city somewhere and I somehow got lost in the city and stopped in what I thought was a pub. While inside I sat down and realized it was a teacher lecturing and I looked around and saw the preppy kids in their school uniforms. I told them I had to go. I somehow later found myself driving around campus and somehow Jon and Drew of Beerland karaoke were in my car long enough to hear me say the words to some skater kids "I love your music but hate your lifestyle" or something to that effect. I was then in some sort of outdoor mall type place where I met up with my dad and my brother. I spotted a lady putting her one legged mother in the back seat of a car. After leaving the store I notice the same car driving up beside me on the road but it's separated into two parts that are held together by the passengers in the back seat. I find it odd so I turn around and find another broken apart car only to find my dad ride what was left of the wheels up and down the sidewalk like a bob sled. Then randomly saw Madeleine Zima of Californication fame run up the street while putting on a sweater before I talked to her and told her that even though I know her name I will always be tempted to call her Mia. And she answered 'I hope not'. So I came up with a compromise of calling her Mia Madeleine. She agreed and told me about her friends going to see some band tonight. At this point I forced myself to wake up so I could write the contents of this weird dream. It was right out of a Michel Gondry film.

Time

I recently came to the realization that I live in the past and the future at the same time. I never want much to do with the 'now'. I've been wanting to start exercising again for a while now but I haven't been making the time for it. It's the same problem I have with many of the things I want to do in life. I either put it off, or don't think about it until I can't do anything about it at that time, or I get a bit mad at myself for not already having it done. With me it's always either "I wish I did that earlier." or "I'll do it tomorrow." Perhaps it is time I Carped the Diem. I'll get around to it eventually. Maybe it's my lack of any present artistic endeavors, maybe it's because I've been watching too many episodes of How I Met Your Mother and Californication, or it could just be my allergies but sometimes I think the 12 year old me would be a bit displeased with himself. I'm not yet the scientist, police officer, lawyer or actor that I wanted to be when I grew up. But then again 12 year old me also still believed in Santa Claus. It seems that from a young age I was ear raped by the school system into thinking that continuing my education would reap nothing but monetary rewards. "Only the uneducated get stuck with the jobs no one wants to do." As I have gotten older I've noticed that is not always the case. Sometimes I'm glad that I didn't go down that path of higher education so that I would live out my days in retail paying back student loans I still couldn't afford while dusting off a degree that's not worth the paper it's printed on. Other times I think about what would be different about me if I did further my education by attending College. Would I have settled on a degree that would be useful and is actually hiring right now? Would I be dating some sexy co-ed I once met at a keg party? Would I be some kind of a douche? And how would this affect my interest rate? You know what I think it may just be the allergies.

How I Met How I Met Your Mother

My first experience with How I Met Your Mother (from now on HIMYM) came about by a Myspace post from my friend Andrea about 3 years ago. Other than gushing about Jason Segel she showed a clip about how the character Robin was once a pop singer in Canada. That scene alone should have been enough to make me take notice. Indeed I did but alas I always feel as if I have to start a show from the beginning in order to enjoy it so I let it go for the time being. Days, weeks, and months go by and I get Bobb X and my roommate Chelley try to convince me that I would enjoy the heck out of this show. I still do not watch for whatever reason. Finally in 2009 I willingly let my friend Kelly force me into watching the show. From one episode I wanted more. If you don't know, the show is about the future version of the main character Ted recounting the days when he was living in NYC and hanging out with all of his best friends and how he eventually will meet his wife. I found all of the episodes through different online means that I won't go through in this blog. I was able to start from the beginning about a month ago and I am now halfway through season 4 and loving it. It's refreshing that there is a sitcom filmed before a live studio audience that I can watch without cringing. So here's to Ted and the gang and here's hoping Neil Patrick Harris gets the Emmy he so deserves for season 4.

Even Ripley is Not Going to Believe This!

Due to circumstances beyond my control (Firefox frakking up) I am now using Safari to browse the web. What a long day to travel. After going to bed at 1:30am I woke up at 5:15am to get to the airport on time so I could catch my flight. I decided to park in an outside lot that I had never been to before so obviously I ended up going the wrong way and had to backtrack a bit. Feeling like I dodged a bullet I get the airport only to discover that Austin-Bergstrom Airport is really busy at 6am! I get there and decide to not pay the $15 to check my bag. I'm glad I didn't because the line to get through security was a huge one. Not much longer than the line to check in baggage. After slowly getting through security I get in the plane and find my seat. Lucky for me my seatmate was a pretty cool person. For once it was someone I could talk to and not some drunken old hag. When the plane gets close to Atlanta we run into a bit of storm activity. The plane was not allowed to land. In fact the airport was backed up and many planes were left circling around the airport waiting for the go ahead to land. A few moments later the captain comes on the intercom. Our plane is running low on fuel so we will be redirected to Montgomery, Alabama. We land and once again the captain comes on the intercom and welcomes us to the Columbus, GA airport and that we should sit tight and wait to refuel before we take off again. A few more moments pass and again the captain comes on the intercom and tells us that there is something wrong with the plane and that someone from Atlanta was driving there with the part to fix it and it wouldn't take that long. We were then allowed to exit the plane and see what the Columbus, GA airport had to offer. Which basically was one little diner that definitely made more money today than they probably had made in the entire month of July. Again the captain came on the intercom to inform us that we needed to get all of our luggage at the baggage claim because they chartered a bus for us and it was on it's way. I thought since I had gotten along so well with my seatmate I figured that we should at least suffer together. We got on the bus that would eventually get us to Atlanta. But first we had to suffer through a bus that had zero air conditioning, at noon, in July, in Georgia. It was beginning to feel like a John Hughes movie. After getting about half way the bus ran into some construction along the interstate that made it seem more like a parking lot. Some tech savvy people were pulling out their GPS devices to give everyone a clue as to how far we were from the airport. After about an hour and a half of riding without the A/C we all finally arrive to a very much delayed Atlanta airport. Every flight seemed to be off by about 2 hours. After going through a security checkpoint for a third time I wait patiently in line for new flight details. After no luck getting on a flight on standby I remember that the day was going much better when I wasn't suffering alone so after I secured a seat on the next flight out I looked for my old seatmate to wait for the next flight. After wishing my new friend good luck in getting on her next flight I head back to where my flight was supposed to be. Only to get there and realize it had changed terminals. So I had to get to another terminal and the gate was one that was all the way down the other end. I finally reach the plane only to realize that this flight was scheduled exactly 12 hours (11 when you account for the time zone) after my first flight. I finally arrived in NC at around 8:30pm.

The Legend, The Myth, The Man

Michael Jackson was a cultural phenomenon. I find it awesome that even after all of his troubles of the last 15 years or so that on his day of death he be remembered for what he will and should always be remembered as around the world: The King of Pop.

Stand-Up and Delivered

In the last couple of days I have finally done what many have said I should do for the last 3 years at least. It is also something I have wanted to do I was just afraid to get the ball rolling. It took someone special to remind me that I really wanted to do it. I've even been writing some material for the past year. Not much but a good start. But I must say I was right about starting. I went to Kick Butt Coffee for their open mic night. I felt a bit dodgy at first but I felt I was getting the hang of it a bit by the time I was done. As soon as I was done I wanted to get back up there and try again. The crowd could have been a bit better in my opinion they weren't really laughing at anyone's jokes that night. As my friend Craig would say "You couldn't move that crowd with a gun!" I did hit them with one good one though. The thing is I always thought that as soon as I did stand-up I would have felt like 'been there done that' and be done with it but that's not the case. Instead it makes me want to try harder to make people laugh. And write more jokes. Which I have done. I tried again on Thursday night at The Velveeta Room. The anticipation to get up on stage was almost too overwhelming there. I would be lying if I didn't admit that I was tempted to leave a few times. For the record if you are going to perform late at night be sure to eat something before you leave the house so you don't think you will pass out from not having anything in your system. This time I had more of a receptive crowd. I did have some friends in the audience as well. I got more laughs than I did the previous night. When I was done I was congratulated by many in the crowd which made me feel even better about it. I will definitely be making a habit of this.

Summer Movie Preview

If you know me you know that watching movies is one of my favorite things to do. And here comes the summer movie season with a shit ton of movies that I want to sit in the AC while watching.
In no particular order except for number one.

1. Star Trek: I have been a trekkie/trekker most of my life. My favorite has always been DS9. I even liked Enterprise. And the only reason I didn't watch Voyager was because I didn't have UPN at the time.

2. Wolverine: As long as it is closer to X2 as opposed to X3.

3. Public Enemies: Christian Bale, Johnny Depp FTW.

4. The Proposal. I will watch anything with Ryan Reynolds in it.

5. GI Joe: This looks like it could be either really awesome or really cheesy.

6. Transformers 2: Nostalgia for the Original will make me go. Bay may make me leave early though.

7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: These movies never cease to amaze.

8 Terminator Salvation: The only Salvation for me to watch a McG movie is Christian Bale.

9. Angels and Demons: Opie has gone and made a sequel, Bee.

10. Year One: You had me at Harold Ramis.

11. Julie & Julia: Yeah it looks like a chick flick. So what? Don't judge me.

12. Funny People: Apatow + Sandler = Bring on the funny.

13. 500 Days of Summer: I heart indie flicks.

14. Next Day Air: Donald Faison is in this so I'll be watching this.

Okay that's enough for now. There are many more and this Summer season looks like it is going to be a busy one for me. I'm already behind which is not good.

And the Award (Should) Go To. . . .

Unfortunately I have to work tonight so I won't be able to watch the Academy Awards live but that doesn't mean I don't care. Though I am skipping categories I don't particularly care about or have an opinion on.

Here is my short list with a little description afterward of . . .

Best Actor : The only movie I have seen that is nominated in this field is Benjamin Button and as much as I love Brad Pitt this is not his year to win it. This one will probably go to Mickey Rourke unless he has alienated too many of the voters.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: If this doesn't go to Heath Ledger expect EVERY news outlet to be making it THE news story of the week. Though Hoffman was great in Doubt.

Best Actress in a Leading Role: This one is a tough one. Jolie was amazing in Changeling so I believe it will be between her and Streep in Doubt. Streep edges out for me because while watching Doubt I was pulled out of the movie briefly to point out to myself how intense and awesome the acting in this is. I only take Winslet out of the picture because in my opinion she was better in Revolutionary Road and she was nominated for the Reader so she wouldn't win this time around. Plus she just won two Golden Globes.

Best Supporting Actress: This one I have no idea though. I think Amy Adams will edge out over the competition due to Doubt being Shandley's baby.

Best Animated: Wall-E. I haven't seen any of these and can tell you Wall-E will win.

Best Cinematography : The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. My love for this movie is known but it should win this category.

Best Film Directing: Having seen 3 of the 5 nominees I say that Danny Boyle will get this one.

Best Score: Like what happened with me with Doubt while I was watching Defiance I couldn't help but think how awesome the score was as I was watching the movie.

Best Music (Song) : Don't care.

Best Writing (Adapted) This one will more than likely go to Doubt. But I wouldn't count out the Reader.

Best Writing (Original) I hope it goes to In Bruges but I have a feeling that's another throw away nomination and it will go to Milk. (Nothing against Milk).

Now for Best Picture. . .

I feel it should go to Benjamin Button but that's probably just me. See don't get me wrong I liked Slumdog Millionaire but to be honest to me it is my least favorite Danny Boyle movie. Sunshine was better, Millions was better, I even liked the Beach more than I liked Slumdog Millionaire. Though if Slumdog Millionaire wins expect Hollywood to shoot more movies in India to cash in on it's success. Why pay actors in L.A. when all you have to do is offer clean water to people in the slums of India. It's a win-win for the producers.

Oh and I hope they ask John C McGinley to portray Dr. Cox tonight just so I can see his reaction to Hugh Jackman hosting the Academy Award Show.

New America

Welcome to the New America. I don't know about you but once it finally set in that Obama was inaugurated as President of the United States and Bush had left D.C. I felt a change come over myself and my surroundings. The sun shined a bit brighter. I was walking a bit taller. Nipples were a bit more erect. It's a wonderful feeling. And the cynical, downward spiral that has plagued our great nation for the last eight years has finally come to a close. What will the new Presidency bring? I don't really know but at this point all Obama really had to do was show up yesterday and already he is doing a better job than his predecessor.

Curious Case

In Superman: The Movie Lex Luthor talks about how someone can "read War and Peace and think it to be just a book about war. Others can read the ingredients on a bubble gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the Universe." I had a moment like that last week when I finally watched the movie I was most looking forward to. Let me just say that it was a splendid piece of art. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. Maybe because it was David Fincher and Brad Pitt. Maybe because I may have unlocked a secret in myself I have been unable to see or kept myself from seeing for a long time. Great movies tend to be more than the sum of their parts. I believe what constitutes a brilliant film is one that still has you emotionally reeling long after the credits have rolled. This film was no exception. I not only was watching a movie I was able to connect to this movie on a personal level. The movie's central themes dealt with loss, loneliness, abandonment, and most importantly love. It made me think about the loss of people throughout my life whether it was loved ones who walk in and out of my life for whatever reason to the death of my Grandpa last year. It had me face the sense of loneliness I have been feeling lately and offered some hypotheses on why I am still single after all of these years. I took a long look at myself after the movie. That's when the movie hit me the hardest. I felt more alone than I had in a long while. I came to the conclusion that one of my main reasons for being single for so long is that when I start to like someone I almost immediately think that it's going to end. I cannot seem to reconcile those thoughts. Or about how I will feel when it does end. Even when there is no evidence to support it my brain goes through that motion. I'm not sure why but like it or not they are there. I know in the end these are just thoughts and they only have whatever power that I give them and I tend to give thoughts like these more power than I should. I love it when movies do that. This will definitely be one I add to my collection when it comes out.

Tis The Season

Apparently I didn't do a blog the entire month of Nov. Holy Crabapple. Well anyway the X-Mas season is in full swing and I'd like to take this opportunity to say that the holiday time for me has always been my favorite time of year. Presents, Holiday Music, Holiday Movies and most importantly it's about loved ones and family. For me though it also means I slow down with everything non-holiday related. Don't expect me to do any hard labor or anything mentally tasking. School was always hard for me at this time because I was ready for the year to end and was always counting the days until vacation time. In the spirit of the holiday season I give you one of my favorite Holiday songs. By s John Bongiovi who later became famous as Jon Bon Jovi.

And to prove to you it is Bon Jovi

The More You Know

Friends don't let your friends dress up as the Joker this year for Halloween. This was the rebuttal I gave one of my teachers in high school when she told me that 'the early bird catches the worm' upon my tardiness. Last night the saying couldn't have been more true. This year I have been going to the shows of the Austin Wind Symphony. This is a symphony in the city that plays movie and TV scores. Last night was their Star Trek show. Let me just say they are very talented. I was 30 minutes late due to working a little later than I had expected to. As I walked in the lady taking money at the door just waved me on through so I ended up not having to pay. After the show I was supposed to meet friends downtown at The Belmont for a birthday party. When I got there there was a Make-A-Wish foundation fundraiser auction event going on that had 'private party' signs everywhere so I wasn't sure if my friends were actually there. I went in looking for them and in doing so wound up inadvertently sneaking in to the event as it was beginning to wind down. It's a good thing I dressed nicely because while I walked around trying my best to look like I belonged there I ended up scavenging some free food. With all of the rich and attractive teens and 20-something year old people being dressed nicely it was hard for me not to feel like I was in an episode of Gossip Girl. It turned out that my friends showed up a little earlier and decided to leave and go eat at Roy's for the birthday dinner portion of the evening. The night was a fun one and I ended up not having to pay for my show or my food for the night. I wonder if this is what it's like to be a celebrity?

Best. They seem to actually be moving Clark on. I haven't been this excited to watch Smallville in a long time. If they keep the quality up this season we could be seeing a 9th season that is both necessary and wanted.

Now heroes on the other hand. What happened? I am usually the biggest apologist for shows that are starting to decline but this season of heroes may have taken the cake last night. Without giving anything away there was a scene in last night's Heroes that made me go WTF?! and not the kind where afterward I say 'awesome'. 3 times this season 3 different characters did things that were uncharacteristic of the characters from the last 2 seasons for no reason. Other than those three things I have enjoyed the season.

Heroes this season: C+
Smallville this season: A-

Fall TV Report

Here are some new shows that I have started to watch this Fall

Gossip Girl- Yeah I know it started last year and I'm a little late to the party but whatevs. and I'm still on season one.

Privileged- With Gossip Girl, 90210, and Privileged it looks like the executives of the networks are shooting in their homes to save money. Anyway this show is kind of cute and has some potential.

Fringe- This is my favorite new show. And it looks like Fox isn't going to cancel it so that's a good thing.

Life On Mars- True it starts tonight but I plan on watching this American remake of a British instant type='text'>Somebody Save Me.

"Some people can read War & Peace and come away thinking it"s a simple adventure story. Some people can read the ingredients off a bubble gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe." This is a quote from Lex Luthor in Superman: The Movie. I had one of those moments recently. This past week I have been watching season 7 of Smallville to get me prepared for the start of Season 8 that begins tonight. While doing so I noticed what many people in the Smallville forums have been saying is one of their bigger problems with the show: Clark seems to be staying in Smallville mode and doesn't seem to want to grow and reach his full potential yet. This got me to thinking about my own situation when it comes to acting. Right now I seem to just be stuck in a stagnant situation of my own doing. I am being the Clark Kent of Smallville. I am in the process of correcting this as I type this with new acting classes. I haven't taken a class in 10 months. I think it's about time I get going again. And continue to grow. I feel confident in my acting ability I just haven't grown in the other aspects of the business. i.e. resume, headshot, agent, and going on auditions. I haven't been to one audition since moving to Austin 4 years ago. I think I'm way past due for one.

Thanksgiving Will Never Be the Same.

My fondest memories of the family's Thanksgiving. My brother and the male cousins in the family would stay over at Grandpa's place to help cook the main courses which usually consisted of a pig, and sometimes, also a turkey. A pig is what the NC version of BBQ is known or as it is spelled in the region 'Barbecue'. Sometimes it is referred to as a 'Pig Pickin'. Chopped pork spiced to perfection waiting to be devoured the next day along with the side dishes prepared by the rest of the family. It has been a tradition on my mom's side of the family for as long as I can remember. Watching Grandpa stoke the fires, while we all caught up on what we had been up to since we last saw each other. Going to bed for basically what would normally consist of a nap and waking up early to have breakfast and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and look for that Santa Claus at the end to usher in the next holiday. All of this will now be a very fond memory for me because this past weekend I got the sad news that my grandpa had passed away. One of the drawbacks of living so far away from home is the inability to see the family in times like these. Earlier in the week I was having waves of emotions. One minute I would be OK and the next I would automatically be sad. Then my emotion wall comes up only to be squashed by something as simple as the Coldplay song "Fix You". I have always liked that song except for Monday when it came on the radio at work. Tears streamed down my face during the chorus. Since it wasn't practical for me to go to the funeral I chose my own way of saying goodbye. I decided I would toast a glass of whiskey Coke (the drink I remember him drinking at Thanksgiving) in his honor. I'll probably end up doing it a few times this week. I raise the glass to the sky and nod my head in acknowledgement. Perhaps not the best way to say goodbye but it's one that I think will work. Symbolism is the key to that one I believe. It really is difficult to say goodbye sometimes. I'm even having trouble typing it right now. . . Here goes. Goodbye Grandpa L.K., Thanksgiving will never be the same.

I'm Going to Watch This Twice.

Red Band Trailer for the Movie Role Models

Signs Our Economy is Failing.

In November of this year MTV will stop showing TRL for the time being. People buying water, flashlights, and Chef Boyardee to get through this perfect storm known as Ike. Another item people can't get enough of is booze. Now I've never really been much of a drinker but is throwing a hurricane party really the best way to ride out a storm? "Oh my God the power is out, everyone drink the beer before it get's warm!" It makes me wonder if it effects the death toll in any way. People getting sloshed and thinking it would be cool to walk outside. Granted there are also sober people who do that. They're called weathermen. This is 2008. I think we know what windy looks like without having all of the Weather Channel employees running after their hats in a storm. Let's just put a camera out there and watch from the shelter of a building.

A Guy Dressed as a Bat.

With the overwhelming positive response and success of The Dark Knight it will be inevitable for a sequel. Already casting rumors are a buzz on the internets so I am going to put my two cents in. Rumors have been spread about Johnny Depp being offered the role of The Riddler. Though it's true Johnny Depp could make playing a Starbucks Cup interesting I believe a better choice for him would be for the Mad Hatter. (Of course he is already going to be the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's live action Alice in Wonderland but that's beside the point.

As for Catwoman I think Rachel McAdams will be a solid choice.

As for the Riddler I would suggest that Crispin Glover be this one. The man had a great plan to attack poverty and bring change to the country.) But in a sense of fairness I decided I would listen to what the Republicans had to say. Tonight I watched the Republican National Convention and one thing they showed was absolutely terrible. They showed a clip of 9/11/01 and had the audacity to try and capitalize on that. What happened that day should not be used by anyone in that capacity. I listened to the speeches and I must say Obama seems to have a better idea of what he wants to do for this country. McCain was vague about the problems facing the country and his ideas on making a change for the country.

If you happened to miss the Convention I can sum it up for you. Maverick, 9/11, 9/11, POW, Vietnam, hero, Maverick, Change, Palin+Executive experience, Maverick, Washington, God Bless America. First off Gossip Girl. Truthfully after watching the pilot I was not too impressed with this one. I don't think I have ever watched a show where I hated so many characters right off the bat. Are rich people really this predictable and one dimensional? I speak of the parents mostly. Something as archaic as suggesting your son stick it out with his girlfriend because he wants to do deals with her father? That still goes on? Anyway it basically seems like a show about rich kids who get wasted and laid all the time and their problems. Maybe I'm just jealous. I did however like the "poor" kids in this one. In fact if it weren't for them I probably would have stopped watching the show. It was only the pilot so I'll give it another shot since everyone I know seems to be into this show at the moment.

Another show I finally started watching today was It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. This sitcom is rude, crude, and actually quite funny. I don't know what's taken me so long to see this show. I will be continuing to watch this one for sure.I would like to point out that what got me started on the show was an episode I saw last night at SideBar. I guess someone had the DVDs going.
If you are interested in starting Philly you can watch all of the episodes online at Hulu.com. As for Gossip Girl the first season is on DVD so you can rent it or buy it.

Superman Returns Again (Kinda Sorta)

Newsarama has a story here about the direction the new Superman film will go. According to the article they are basically going to reboot the franchise. Now I thought that is what they should have done last time. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Superman Returns for what it was. (Basically the worlds biggest fan film.) I thought it perfectly continued the movies from the Christopher Reeve movies. It was a great ode to that series. And what they did I thought was great it just was more an adaptation of the Superman movie of 1978 than it was about Superman the Comic Book character. I wanted a movie based on the comic book character, not a movie based on a movie based on a comic book character. Hopefully this news turns out to be a good thing and we don't end up with another Superman IV. (which by the way even though it is my least favorite of the five I liked it I just thought the serious subject matter should have been taken a bit more seriously) Now if only they will keep Brandon Routh.

Hope Obi Wan is Close By

This is just too awesome not to share.

The Bush Legacy

Say what you will about our current Commander in Chief's foreign policy, domestic policy, war strategy, or intentions but it won't matter. I have never had the luxury of meeting him but you have to admit he has been part of some of the greatest movies of the last 25 years. And if you go to tomcruise.com there is a video of some of his performances in the last 25 years. Of course that can only mean one thing. Since a majority of these films are from Paramount you can probably expect to see a boxed set soon covering his 25 years in the movies. Now if only I can get money for coming up with the ad campaign for this boxed set. Tom Cruise Box Set. This scene? What are they slow? This scene is obviously about actors discussing whether or not they can pretend to be retarded. No insensitivity here in my opinion. Nothing about retarded people at all. Not one mention of Downs Syndrome. Not even a mention of Corky from Life Goes On. Man, I loved that show. Let's just stop being offended by every little thing that goes on in a movie. Don't want to see the movie? Fine. It's just that this whole "I don't like the message of your movie even though I haven't seen it so I'm going to try and get everyone else to not see it either" mentality needs to be abolished. It doesn't solve anything. And it makes you and your group look like a bunch of oppurtunists who don't understand the concept of context. Not only have I met new friends that I hope will be a part of my life for years to come I have also run into friends from most aspects of my life that I don't get to see enough. Thursday I saw some of my 'videoke' buddies in Henri and Caitlin. Saturday I was able to hang out with my friends Kimbra and Lisa from the Randall's store where I used to work. Sunday brought me to sitting in on an acting class where I ran into the acting coach, and my friends CJ, Corrina, and Chris. After meeting old friends and making new ones at the after party I went to the Ritz to see the 'Sailor Jerry' documentary and ended up seeing my friends Corey and Courtney. With tomorrow being Monday and karaoke night seeing friends can only get better.

While On That Subject . .

Maybe I have become too cynical with my views of relationships but I have noticed a another trend besides my post on the disposable relationships we have today. It seems that the more attractive a woman is the more a guy will be willing to put up with their idiosyncrasies. The same is true with women but to a different extent, the more money a guy has the more the woman will be willing to put up with his idiosyncratic behavior. Of course this is not true for all members of both sexes. One can conclude from this observation that this could be the basis for strip clubs. The man is there for the attractive women while the women are there for the money. Just a thought.

Disposable

Maybe I am just being too cynical but what happened to the "old fashioned" way of going out with someone? It seems to me these days that hardly anyone wants to refer to dates as dates. Or admit they are in a committed relationship with someone. Has it become too taboo to do so? The divorce rate is nearly half and half in this country. And I am sure the "break-up" rate is the same if not more so for non-married couples. Maybe I am just being naive and that nothing ever truly lasts forever. It just seems that people in general have no desire to be with someone. Or after they are with someone it doesn't take long for them to move onto someone else. Maybe I am making a leap in logic here but maybe it's because we have become a consumer nation. We have disposable plates, utensils, diapers, razors, pens, almost anything can be found in disposable form. We are always trading in the old car for the new car. The HDTV for the standard sets. And even with the new TV's we tend to buy a new one if it breaks because it's cheaper to buy new. It's no wonder we don't have lasting relationships with people. In our minds they have become just as disposable as everything else.

It's Not Easy Being Green.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a soft spot for those furry characters that are not quite mops and not quite puppets. I think I was just as excited to see this movie as I was to see The Dark Knight. Yet this time I felt nervous. I felt like I had put something into this movie. I guess 9 years of your life devoted to a TV show will do that to you. Now onto the review. The writers did an excellent job in making it feel like an extended episode of the X-files. The main plot dealt with a scenario any fan of the series would be familiar with. (Or anyone who picked up the Revelations DVD). Every character was written properly within the confines of this world I've come to know and love through the 9 seasons of the TV show. What was especially fun for me (especially since I have almost watched 3 seasons on DVD in a span of a month) was to see some of the in-jokes they have scattered throughout the movie. References to directors and producers. Nods to some of the elements of the show. Canadian actors I have seen time and time again on the X-Files TV show as well as some other big shows filmed in Vancouver. There was a big laugh in the first half of the movie that I won't spoil for you and the whole gathering of people in the theater busted out laughing. All of the elements were there for a great X-Files adventure: Mulder's humor, Scully's skepticism, Mark Snow music, creepy, gory undertones. Well all of those elements except for aliens. Which Thomas ,a friend of mine that I ran into there, pointed out that it's weird that the Indiana Jones movie had more aliens in it than the X-Files movie. All of these elements were great and made for a fantastic movie yet I couldn't help but feel a bit depressed after it was all over. Maybe it's because I have a gloomy prediction that this movie won't do well enough for them to make the sequel Chris Carter intends to make if this movie is successful, maybe it's the feeling that this may be the last that we see of Mulder and Scully for a while if not for good, or maybe it's the fact that right before the movie started I noticed the last girl I felt any real strong feelings about turned out to be inadvertently sitting 3 seats down from me holding hands with a guy

Oh and wait until after the end credits to leave.

Dark Knight

Since all eleventy billion showings of the Dark Knight are sold out I probably won't be seeing it until Monday at the earliest.
Until then I will just have to settle for the trailer.
Or variations on the trailer. Where would I be without Canada? Well for one thing I wouldn't be as entertained as I am. If I take a look back at all of my favorite TV shows past and present a good majority of them are filmed in Canada. Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, MacGuyver, Supernatural, and the X-Files just to name a few. One of my favorite actors, Michael J. Fox, was born in Canada. Not to mention Ryan Reynolds, and Nathan Fillion. One of my all time favorite bands is even Canadian. I have seen them live twice and they were brilliant. The Weakerthans is that band and here is their song about one of the more Canadian things to do: Curling.

So Happy Birthday Canada and may you keep entertaining me throughout the rest of my life. Every now and again I get tendinitis in my feet. Usually it happens in one foot or the other so I can usually just use the other foot more. But this time the other foot went on strike the day after the left one did. So I've been pretty inactive for the last couple of days. Since I felt like maybe if I take today off I could possibly be better for work tomorrow as opposed to me working and being miserable since my job requires me to be on my feet for 8 hours. It feels like a Snow Day because it's a day off that I should have been working. Also because since my feet are bothering me I don't feel like I should leave the house. Nothing but indoor activities for me today. Now if only I could figure out how to make snow cream without actual snow.

The Truth Is Out There

I am going to attempt to watch 9 seasons of the X-Files and the X-Files Movie before the new X-Files movie comes out July 25.
