It's Not Easy Being Green.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a soft spot for those furry characters that are not quite mops and not quite puppets. More than likely I will be watching this one time or another. My only beef with it is that it will be on the Disney Channel which means that the only celebrities present on this show will be Disney Channel pseudo celebrities. (I am fully aware that they are probably really popular with the under 20 crowd.)

Let's Just Say I Want to Believe.

Tonight I went to the Midnight showing of the new X-Files movie. I think I was just as excited to see this movie as I was to see The Dark Knight. Yet this time I felt nervous. I felt like I had put something into this movie. I guess 9 years of your life devoted to a TV show will do that to you. Now onto the review. The writers did an excellent job in making it feel like an extended episode of the X-files. The main plot dealt with a scenario any fan of the series would be familiar with. (Or anyone who picked up the Revelations DVD). Every character was written properly within the confines of this world I've come to know and love through the 9 seasons of the TV show. What was especially fun for me (especially since I have almost watched 3 seasons on DVD in a span of a month) was to see some of the in-jokes they have scattered throughout the movie. References to directors and producers. Nods to some of the elements of the show. Canadian actors I have seen time and time again on the X-Files TV show as well as some other big shows filmed in Vancouver. There was a big laugh in the first half of the movie that I won't spoil for you and the whole gathering of people in the theater busted out laughing. All of the elements were there for a great X-Files adventure: Mulder's humor, Scully's skepticism, Mark Snow music, creepy, gory undertones. Well all of those elements except for aliens. Which Thomas ,a friend of mine that I ran into there, pointed out that it's weird that the Indiana Jones movie had more aliens in it than the X-Files movie. All of these elements were great and made for a fantastic movie yet I couldn't help but feel a bit depressed after it was all over. Maybe it's because I have a gloomy prediction that this movie won't do well enough for them to make the sequel Chris Carter intends to make if this movie is successful, maybe it's the feeling that this may be the last that we see of Mulder and Scully for a while if not for good, or maybe it's the fact that right before the movie started I noticed the last girl I felt any real strong feelings about turned out to be inadvertently sitting 3 seats down from me holding hands with a guy

Oh and wait until after the end credits to leave.

Dark Knight

Since all eleventy billion showings of the Dark Knight are sold out I probably won't be seeing it until Monday at the earliest.
Until then I will just have to settle for the trailer.
Or variations on the trailer. Like this one. Starring kids.

Yeah that was awesome.

Happy Birthday USA!!

The land of apple pies and dreams turns 232 years old today. To celebrate I have this song by the descendants that sums up how I feel about America. I love it but I hate some of the things we have done.

I found this on youtube while reading about the Declaration of Independence on wiki. Enjoy.

Happy Birthday Canada!!

Today marks the 141st year of Canada's existence. Where would I be without Canada? Well for one thing I wouldn't be as entertained as I am. If I take a look back at all of my favorite TV shows past and present a good majority of them are filmed in Canada. Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, MacGuyver, Supernatural, and the X-Files just to name a few. One of my favorite actors, Michael J. Fox, was born in Canada. Not to mention Ryan Reynolds, and Nathan Fillion. One of my all time favorite bands is even Canadian. I have seen them live twice and they were brilliant. The Weakerthans is that band and here is their song about one of the more Canadian things to do: Curling.

So Happy Birthday Canada and may you keep entertaining me throughout the rest of my life. Excuse me while I celebrate Canada Day by watching some X-Files.

Snow Day (Figuratively Speaking)

Today for the first time since moving to TX I called in for work. Every now and again I get tendinitis in my feet. Usually it happens in one foot or the other so I can usually just use the other foot more. But this time the other foot went on strike the day after the left one did. So I've been pretty inactive for the last couple of days. Since I felt like maybe if I take today off I could possibly be better for work tomorrow as opposed to me working and being miserable since my job requires me to be on my feet for 8 hours. It feels like a Snow Day because it's a day off that I should have been working. Also because since my feet are bothering me I don't feel like I should leave the house. Nothing but indoor activities for me today. Now if only I could figure out how to make snow cream without actual snow.
